FAMILY, POWER, CAPITALISM & THE GODFATHER...

Updated: Feb 16, 2021

While this may be the premise of this 1972 crime film, those who've watched it know that it's so much more than that. Stuck at home during the lockdown, I rewatched the film after years, only to realise how everything, from Don Corleone's the suave tuxedos to the genius dialogues written back then, is still relevant today, after almost 50 years.

I love films and when I decided to blog about it, I could not think of a better movie to kickstart it with. So what you're going to read ahead are 3 dialogues from this epic movie that hit right home and also feel very apt for the 'new normal' we are living in today.

"I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse"

- Don Corleone

This is also exactly what my Instagram Targeted Ads and Amazon said EVERY SINGLE TIME they threw a new sponsored promotion at me. After giving in almost every time, guess who landed up buying 2 bikini sets, a bunch of hoodies, a faux fur jacket (I really don't know why) and a few pairs of shoes with nowhere to go? YUP, I DID!

"Good health is the most important thing. More than success, more than money, more than power"

- Hyman Roth

PREACH, brother! Preach!

2020 truly made me realise what Hyman was talking about. Nothing, absolutely nothing is more important than the mental and physical health of you and those you love. Period.

"How did things ever get so far?"

- Don Corleone

A global pandemic, worldwide lockdown, MASKS, migrant crisis, Australian bush fires, Uttarakhand forest fires....... you know the rest. After knowing that the world has gone through all of this S#!T in a matter of 365 days (and counting), I can't help but wonder "How the EFF did things ever get this far!?" and just like Don Corleone, "I don't know."

On that note, my first blog comes to an end. I'd really like to know if you can think of any dialogue from #TheGodfather that you would fit 2020, so let me know below.

Oh, and don't forget to hit the like button.

Kay, bye!
